Velvet Revolver - Velvet Revolver Swamped By Singer Applicants

Rockers VELVET REVOLVER have been overwhelmed by applications from singers vying to take over from former frontman SCOTT WEILAND.

Weiland was axed from the group last month (Apr08) and the band are currently looking for a new singer to take his place.

Guitarist Slash recently unveiled plans to launch a website dedicated to auditioning hopefuls - and although a site is not yet up and running, the group have been bombarded with thousands of demo tapes from wannabe singers.

Drummer Matt Sorum insists they haven't yet found the person for the job yet and it is a long and tedious process sifting through all of the applications.

He tells Blabbermouth.net, "It's coming along. People are sending stuff in. The first time we were looking for a singer it was a little tougher, 'cause people didn't really know what we were doing musically, I guess.

"So this time it's gotten out of control, especially with the internet and things like that, we've got just thousands and thousands of people coming at us with, you know, auditions."

Velvet Revolver dismissed Weiland following a series of public disputes on 1 April (08). Weiland has since announced a summer tour with his former band Stone Temple Pilots.

Judge denies media motion in R. Kelly trial

A judge has denied a motion from news organizations seeking immediate access to sealed court records and transcripts in the R. Kelly child pornography trial.

Judge Vincent Gaughan (GAWN) also refused to lift a gag order forbidding attorneys to talk about the case.

The judge says he's not trying to inhibit the press. But he says the time isn't right to release the information and keeping it secret is the only way to guarantee a fair trial.

Kelly has pleaded not guilty to charges he videotaped himself having sex with an underage girl.

Jury selection in the R&B singer's trial finished this week. Opening arguments begin Tuesday.

Williams not touring 'any time soon'

Singer Robbie Williams has told his fans that he will not be touring again "any time soon".
In a blog, posted on his official website, Williams also said that he probably won't release a new album in 2008.
The singer said in the posting: "There might not be a proper album out this year and there definitely won't be a tour any time soon."
Referring to his last tour, he said that the non-stop concert dates "nearly killed" him.
He also said: "There will be some kind of something this year. I might just put the B-sides to the next album out first online. Then put an album out in 2009. Which means you won't be seeing a lot of me on stage for a while."
"I do have to say, the more time I'm spending away from public life, the more I like it. Unfortunately I have a massive competitive urge that wants me to put out three albums a year."

Pete Wentz Explains Pregnancy Denials

Pete Wentz has explained why he continually denied his wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz's pregnancy despite the fact the couple are expecting a baby – in a statement on Wednesday (May 28).

One of the worst kept entertainment industry secrets was finally confirmed on Wednesday, when the couple announced they were expecting their first child.

"While many have speculated about this," a statement posted on Wentz' website Friendsorenemies.com read, "we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child. This is truly the most joyous time in our lives and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family."

However, many in the media have questioned why the pair continually dodged and denied the pregnancy question when they were quite obviously expecting.

"Every woman, no matter who they are or what they do for a living, has the right to wait at least three months before sharing this very personal news," Wetnz wrote in an email to MTV.

"We wanted to wait until after the first trimester and get a clean bill of health from our doctors before confirming anything, just like any other couple. Being a boy I have no idea how to respond to such things and my first instinct was to protect her and the baby."

The Fall Out Boy rocker adds, "It's insane that you can't let happy news brew in Hollywood. This wasn't about press or anything. It was about the health of the baby and trying to find a way to be happy with what should be the most happy time of our lives in the middle of a press blitz. I apologize to anyone who felt misinformed but the truth is, the person and growing baby is who I felt most loyal to protect and defend."

Summer Wine actor Brian Wilde dies

'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'Porridge' actor Brian Wilde has died at the age of 86.

He also said that Wilde had suffered a fall around seven weeks ago and had not recovered.
According to the BBC, Wilde's agent Nick Young said: "He will be sadly missed by colleagues and family alike. He brought a great deal of laughter into many people's lives."

Unemployed Heche can't afford child support

Anne Heche can’t afford to continue her $15,000-a-month child support payments.

The 38-year-old actress revealed in court papers that since her US TV show Men in Trees was cancelled, she cannot continue to pay the $14,798 monthly payments, which includes private school tuition for her six-year-old son Homer.

She wrote: “I am continuing to look for work, but I have no offers pending and the impending strike by the Screen Actors Guild reduces my prospects for work even further.

"Since January 18, 2008, I have been unemployed and had no income from employment except for one very short-term contract for a movie role for which I received a total of $6500, approximately the amount I received for one episode of Men in Trees.”

A judge ruled she would not have to pay the July payment to ex-husband Coley Laffoon, but Superior Court Judge Gail Ruderman Feuer ordered her to provide updated income and expense information as soon as she had it.

The payments also include the mortgage on her house in Canada, rent on her Los Angeles property and expenses on her car.

She adds in the court papers: “I do receive some residuals from previous acting work. However, the amounts are nominal and are offset by recurring business expenses that must be paid whether or not I am working.”

Jennifer Aniston's hair 'most envied' by women

Women envy Jennifer Aniston's hair more than any other celebrity, according to a recent survey.
In a poll of 1,600 people commissioned by Hair magazine, it was found that Aniston's hair is the most coveted followed by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Cat Deeley, Penelope Cruz, Angelina Jolie, Natalie Imbruglia, Victoria Beckham, Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone and Sienna Miller.
The survey also named 'the bob' - as popularised by Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes - as the "most iconic haircut" of all time.
The hairstyle, originally associated with Sixties stars such as Mary Quant and Twiggy, beat Aniston's sleek, long Friends cut in the survey.
Her hairdo sparked the biggest hair craze of the Nineties as women flocked to salons to ask for 'a Rachel'.
The Amy Winehouse-style Sixties beehive was third, followed by the 1970s Farrah Fawcett feathered number, as recently imitated by Madonna.
Mia Farrow's ultra-short 'Rosemary's Baby' crop was fifth in the online poll, commissioned by Hair magazine, followed by the heavy fringe worn to the side that Lady Diana Spencer sported when she announced her engagement to the Prince of Wales.
Joanna Lumley's 'Purdey bob' from her period in 'The New Avengers' was seventh.

One of the most incisive and savagely satiric songwriters of his era, Warren Zevon was born in Chicago on January 24, 1947. His shaping days were as colorful as the scenarios played out in his euphony: his fatherhood was a professional gambler, a modus vivendi which constrained the family line to actuate frequently, and Zevon worn-out about of his plastic years in California and Arizona. He erudite to play piano, centering primarily on classical material before a disintegrating home life lED him into pop music, as well as a few run-ins with the constabulary; subsequently his parents divorced when he was 16 days old, Zevon hopped into the Corvette his father-God south Korean won in a card game and headed for New York to become a common people isaac Merrit Singer. His music establish short response, notwithstanding, and he returned to California, finally cathartic his number 1 recordings as voice of the span Lyme & Cybelle. Session crop followed earlier Zevon issued his solo debut Treasured Dead or Alive in 1969; the LP received a poor reception, and so he returned to session make and composed advertising jingles, and as well served as the Everly Brothers' pianist earlier the duo's detachment. Following a 1974 sabbatical to Spain, Zevon returned to Los Angeles, where his longtime ally Jackson Browne had secured him a recording deal; with Browne in the producer's seat, Zevon cut a self-titled offer which was met with plush critical kudos upon its 1976 release. His 1978 follow-up Excitable Boy conventional him as a whole unique gift, and earned a goodish hit with its ironic single "Werewolves of London."

However, Zevon had fallen prey to potomania, and his personal demons sidelined him for the following two geezerhood; 1980s Bad Luck Streak in Dancing School and 1981's live set Stand in the Fire marked his gradual return to form, and the promise of his early work was restored on 1982's brilliant expiration The Envoy. The record album fared miserably on the charts, however, and Zevon once again hide off the estate car. A farsighted period of therapy and counseling followed before, new somber and revitalized, he issued Hokey Hygiene in 1987, recorded with championship assistance from members of R.E.M. (In 1990, some other collection of real from the sessions featuring Zevon and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry was released under the describe Hindu Love Gods.) He continued his comeback in 1989 with Transversal City, a construct record elysian by science fiction's cyberpunk movement, and 1991's Mr. Bad Example. In 1993, Zevon issued his second live album, Learning to Flinch, followed in 1995 by Mutineer. His side by side studio movement, Life'll Kill Ya, did non appear until early 2000. It was a tame success, enough to revolutionize him to footstep back into the studio after touring the U.S.. My Ride's Here, which featured a guest appearance from David Letterman of all people, was released in the bound of 2002. Several months later, Zevon was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an inoperable form of lung cancer, and doctors expected him to live no more than a few months. Zevon decided to make on a final album, with the help oneself of a fistful of celebrity friends and collaborators; The Wind was released in August of 2003, nigh a year to the day subsequently Zevon well-read of his condition, and he lived long enough to see its handout, as well as the parturition of his first grandchildren.

Castro's kid to help out with 'Crash'-style movie on Cuba

Writer-producer Bobby Moresco, who won an Oscar for co-writing "Crash," is teaming with Austin-based Artists Relations Group to bring to the big screen the story of Alina Fernandez, the only daughter of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Moresco, who might also direct the project, will produce via his Moresco Prods. shingle. John Martinez and Noel Tristan produce for ARG.

Fernandez, a product of an affair while Castro was married to his first wife, spent her childhood in the country's shadow, only learning at age 10 that the man who visited her at night and whom she saw on TV every day was her father. In 1993, Fernandez disguised herself as a Spanish tourist and fled first to Spain, then to the U.S., where she has been living in exile ever since. Fernandez is recognized worldwide as one of the most outspoken of Castro's relatives.

The producers are not planning to do a biopic or a simple escape story but are envisioning a multiplot story a la "Crash" that will show the Cuban and American perspectives and ideologies along with Fernandez's story. The project also will be seek inspiration from her memoir.

"For the last 20 years, I have been trying to show what is going in my country, trying to make people be a little more aware of how glorious we are and how many limitations we have," Fernandez told The Hollywood Reporter. "We are your neighbors, yet you know so little about us. It's going to be a good opportunity to show (audiences)."

Fernandez will be involved in the film as a story consultant as well as with media relations for the project.

Financing for development was provided by the Lamy Group. The project is out to writers.

Sex & The City Feud Continues At Premiere

They may have been all smiles on the red carpet but the long-running feud between Sarah Jessica Parker and her Sex & The City co-star Kim Cattrall is apparently far from over.

Despite the public show of solidarity at the world premiere of the movie version of the hit TV show in London on Monday night, Kim reportedly refused to watch the film with the other actresses - and then left before it finished.

A source told the Daily Mail, "It's that bad. Kim can't stand her. It's no secret among those who worked on the film.

"But of course both are professional and have not let the rivalry get in the way of doing the public face of the job."

After at first insisting that all four stars watched the film together, publicist Ruth Dallatt acknowledged that Kim did leave the cinema in Leicester Square to have dinner with Mario Cantone, who plays wedding planner Anthony.

She explained, "The reason that Kim and Mario did not watch the film is that they promised their families that they would watch it for the first time together at the premiere in New York."
